Help me urgent! Course choice

Hi I’ve got a place at Surrey for business economics with data analytics. I’m considering swapping courses to business management with business analytics or biomedical engineering with a foundation year (would be 5 years with the MEng). I’m so torn on what to do, I did maths physics and psychology at a level, and I’m not entirely sure what career I want. I thought business economics would be very employable, but if I’m being honest biomed engineering sounds far more exciting but I know it’s such a niche field + the pay is lower and it would be a 5 year commitment of fees. I can sort of see myself in business too I’m just so undecided. Unfortunately I’m not in the position to take a gap year so I have to decide on one of these. I keep changing my mind every 5 minutes, all three courses are still on clearing so they have vacancies I’ve just really overthought every single option that no option seems good. My main goals for a career are something that pays well, is respectable and I enjoy.

Hi @lunar-dog!

Definitely go for what you'd actually enjoy studying, it makes the heavy load a little more bearable. Business is super broad and employable, but if biomed engineering excites you more it could be worth the extra time. With business degrees, they're often really popular when it comes to employability so having placements/internships would help to stand out, while biomed engineering is quite niche. Just picture yourself working every day - what type of job is it, and which degree is most likely to help get you there.

Hope this helps and good luck!

All three options will get you a job that pays well, and respectable. Whether you enjoy it or not is entirely down to you. Economics and biomed engineering are at different ends of the spectrum so where does your heart lie?

Economices and data analytics are both sort after subject areas and you can get a job in banking or management consultancy or a general grad training programme after you graduate. Biomed engineering is a wonderful STEM subject and because of the quants element in the degree you will again be able to land a job in banking or management consultancy.

Pick the subject you most want to study at uni.
