Hey there 👋

My name is Siobhan and I’m a recent graduate from the University of Lancashire 🎓

Let’s talk about what is happening in welcome week and how to make new friends during this time!!

Student Union events: These are a GREAT way to get out there and be apart of new and exciting things! Throughout the week, there will be loads of different things going on such as vintage thrift shops, makers market, parties etc 🪅🎊👖👗🍔

There will also be loads of stalls you can go to and get freebies! I did this in my welcome week and got loads of goodies such as free cups, pizza and shirts 🤩

Societies: Yes this is a FANTASTIC way to make friends 😃 If you have an interest in dance then you can definitely join the society or club to meet people with the same interest with you. This can also take the pressure of socialising as you will have a middle ground of things you like and can us this to start conversations 🕺 Societies also do social nights where you can go out and do loads of different activities with the people in your group! I would definitely look into this on either freshers day or through the student union. If you don’t like any of them, then you can always leave and change to another one! There’s no commitment to them which is great 😊 Also if you are unsure or miss anything out then this will all be available on the SU website ➡️ https://www.uclansu.co.uk/

Wellbeing and student support:
Make sure or check out the student centre where you can familiarise where the student support and well being services are if you ever need them! They can help you with accommodation, finances, counselling, careers etc. I used these facilities so much throughout my degree so I would most definitely recommend it to you all ☺️

Social media: This is a great way to meet new people and connect with others at uni. I would see if there are any Facebook pages about your uni course or groups with people of similar interest to you! This is what I did when I first started and it helped me a lot to get an idea of different social networks I can be a part of. You can use this as well to follow any events that go on that you could be interested in going, such as fashion, food, culture days etc 🍔👗🐲

I hope this has given you a bit of a taste of whats in store and relived a bit of the pressure for you guys. Make the most of the first couple weeks as they will fly by, trust me! If you have any questions at all then just let me know as I’m months happy to help and have been in your shoes before .
