Is a grade 4 in GCSE English Language going to impact acceptance in University?

My friend has received a grade 4 in GCSE English Language and is worried it’s going to affect him when applying to university in the future— I read online that Buckingham accepts grade 4s in the person speaks English as a first language, is this true? And will his chances of acceptance be limited because of this?

Depends as some unis require a 5 or 6 in lang but some require a 4

Well in that case I don’t think it would affect to much as your friend reached the requirement

Hello Minahil,

Our English language entry requirements state: Applicants should demonstrate competence in English language, either in the case of a native English speaker by attainment of at least Grade 4 in English at GCSE (or equivalent), or in the case of non-native English speakers by attainment of at least 7.0 overall and a minimum of 6.5 in each component of IELTS.

So as long as your friend can demonstrate that they have achieved a min of Grade 4 in English GCSE and meets other academic entry requirements, they will be invited for an Multiple Mini Assessment.
