Deferred entry clearing offer

I applied to SGUL through clearing for their healthcare science course and got an offer 2026/2027 entry I was told I was put on a waitlist for 2025 and I am really disappointed because I turned down a really good firm offer for this and I really wanted to go to uni this year. I just wanted to ask if anyone has any experience with the sgul waitlist? Did anyone get in for their desired year? :frown:

What was the reason you turned down the "really good firm offer"?

Because I really wanted to become a cardiac physiologist and my offer was for optometry but it didn’t really appeal to me as much as healthcare sciences did.

Did SGUL make it clear that the offer was for 2026 entry when you called them for a Clearing place or did you believe it was for 2025 entry?

Yes they made me think I was going to get it for 2025 entry, and only mentioned it again after they gave me my offer I kept calling and even went to their admissions on their open day and they said that I had to wait for spaces.
This is really poor behaviour by SGUL, if they made you a verbal offer they need to tell you what year it is for. And they shouldn't even be using Clearing to fill next years places. You'd be well within your rights to report this to UCAS via [email protected]. Universities UK (UUK) would probably be interested too.

Thanks so much I was so annoyed because I really wanted to start this year and I was so gutted when I got my offer.

Over-recruiting in Clearing, and then palming people off with a deferred place - not professional at all. All applicants, please beware.
