Resitting

I got an a* in the subject I want to study, but because of my other subjects I can’t study at the universities I wanted to. I didn’t fail them and I still have a university place for this year, but I’m actually really upset about the fact that I can go to the unis I wanted to go to. I feel like I’m suffering quite a lot especially because i feel like the exams went poorly bc of external stress outside of my control. Can anyone provide me with information about resitting my exams before I make any choices? Ideally I’d like to self study both of my subjects and then retake them either at my old sixth form or at an exam centre. I’m also curious about how ucas applications work with resitting exams. I know the structure is changing this year, but idk how concerned I should be considering I got all my offers last year. I’ve heard that I’ll have to do clearing no matter what if I’m resitting but should I be concerned about that? I’m studying English and it’s not that competitive compared to other courses. The courses I originally wanted to study were still open after results day. Idk I feel like the fact that it was my other subjects preventing me from getting into my unis is affecting my mental health quite a lot and idk what to do.

I'm sorry to hear that exams didn't go well for you this time. Talk to your school first about resitting your exams with them. By doing this you should be able to use the school's buzzword again to start a UCAS application and they will be able to provide a reference. You won't have to do Clearing - you submit a UCAS application as normal for 2026 entry with full details of your education history. You will be able to add the full five choices. Only the structure of the personal statement has changed for this cycle and there is plenty of time to address that and resources available to help you.
