Anything else?

Hi anxious&paranoid, 👋

It's great to hear you've chosen Sheffield as one of your options for your speech and language therapy course. Sheffield's S&LT course has been ranked in the top 10 by The Complete University Guide for the last three years (2024, 2025, 2026)! 🎉

There are also £5,000+ annual NHS training grants available for studying this course (win-win!)

If you would like to know anything more about the university of Sheffield please let me know and I'd be more than happy to help!

Alternatively, if you would like to speak to a current student on this course, you can go to the Chat To Our Students page and search "speech and language" and you will find a student ambassador currently enrolled on the course to ask any questions about it!

Good luck with your A-Levels! 😃

Best wishes,
Phoebe

Thank you! I saw on the Sheffield SLT entry requirements website that the requirements are AAB (which is above my grades) or ABB and a B in a relevant EPQ (which is my grades, not sure about EPQ grades since they haven't been graded yet) . My EPQ's about factors influencing child aggression, but I'm not sure if that is relevant to speech and language therapy. How and when would I know if I could do(?) the grade reduction?
(sorry if that was a bit unclear)

Is there a reason you did not pick a fifth UCAS choice? Speech and language therapy is a tough course to get onto so definitely make a fifth choice if you have not submitted your application already.

Poor communication skills are one of the largest contributors / predictors of challenging behaviour so yes your EPQ is potentially relevant to speech and language therapy.

Tbh I haven't finished researching courses yet, so I'm not set on the 5th option. It's between Keele, Newcastle, and Reading

Unfortunately my EPQ doesn't mention any communication. It's about the biological (brain structures, neurotransmitters), psychological (self esteem, mental health disorders, information processing), and environmetnal (family environment, peer pressure, violent media, social learning(role modeling)) factors that affect aggression, so not sure if its still relevant

Just to note that a UCAS application can be submitted initially with fewer than five choices and the other choices can be added later (but ideally before the 14 Jan deadline).

Yes that's right. Firstly, I have found in my own experience that the university can be more lenient if you firm them as your top choice. Both my partner (ChemEng) and I (EngLit) got slightly lower than required A-Level grades, but as we firmed Sheff we were still offered a place on our respective courses!

I would also say when you receive your grade for your EPQ, you will have an ides of whether or not you could use it for the grade reduction option. However, the university will still receive all of your grades both A-level and EPQ and can use that to make an assessment on your individual application. I would still say that your topic falls within the scope of the School of Allied Health Professions, Pharmacy, Nursing and Midwifery but if you wanted to ask about it specifically, I would get in touch with the School directly either by dropping them an email to [email protected] or you could call them at +44 114 222 2030.

Hope this helps, and do let me know if you have any further questions!

Best of luck! 🙏

I'm doing BTEC health and social care and an EPQ. Applying to Manchester, Keele, Reading, City St Georges, and Birmingham city. I'm applying for Speech and Language therapy undergraduate and predicted D*DD and B in EPQ. I've only done work experience in a pharmacy as past of my course, and nowhere else, my course requires another 2 weeks of work experience next year so i am going to try and do it in a speech therapy clinic. I'm just worried that i haven't done enough work experience, and stuck on what to write for the last question on personal statement. Some advice plssss, and also is anyone else applying to these places?

Anyone who applied to UCL for SLT - where do we upload the work experience form, and what kind of voluntary work should we include in this document, like just shadowing/clinically relevant experiences, or any type of extracurricular that is relevant (like research labs and such)? Let me know

I've moved your post into the SLT 2026 applicants thread so that it will be seen by other applicants who might be able to help you.

I only put in volunteering and shadowing, no other types of experience. However, I did mention some of the other extracurricular stuff I did in my CV. You upload the form on the second page of the application I believe

Hi I'm 24 and I completed my access to higher education diploma earlier this year and I am currently re-doing my English GCSE. I have applied for undergraduate to Chichester, Plymouth Marjon and Reading (Integrated masters). I have done volunteering and shadowing experience with elderly, individuals with communication difficulties and children.
I've had an interview offer for Plymouth Marjon in December - Has anyone got any advice?
