Official Dental Therapy / Dental Hygiene Applicants Thread 2026

If you're applying to university for Dental Therapy and/or Dental Hygiene for 2026 entry, this is the place to introduce yourself to fellow applicants, ask questions and share your experience of applying so far.

A few questions to start the conversation:

Which course are you applying for?

Which universities are you hoping to apply for?

Work/shadowing experience?

Anything else?

Share as little or as much information as you are comfortable with. :yep:

Just a heads up that funding for healthcare courses and eligibility for the NHS Learning Support Fund differs based on where you normally live and where you want to study. Read the following thread before you apply:

Comparing funding for healthcare courses in England, Scotland and Wales

Please don't share details of interview questions on the forum - it gives those who follow you an unfair advantage.

Sharing or requesting social media handles or group chats is not permitted under the TSR community guidelines.

If that was the last place you took any qualifications, then it is fine to ask.

Hi is anybody trying to reserve a casper test but it always says unsupported browser & when you try to use chrome or firefox as recommended it still says the same thing? Should I try from a different device like a laptop because I was trying with an ipad? Has anybody managed to reserve one yet?

And how is everybody planning to revise for this casper test? I am aware it tests your empathy skills but for preparation is it similar to interviews and scenario questions or any recommendation from anybody?

Can someone kindly explain what the Casper Test is? I’ve never heard of it before. Also, when does it need to be taken during the UCAS application process? Thank you.

I also would like to know as I have sent my application and did not see any mention of this, is it only for certain universities or is it for every ucas application🫢

Hii, I’m currently in a gap year. I got rejected for dentistry after applying with AAA (predicted), GSCES: eng lit -7/ eng lang - 8/ dual sciences 9-8/ history - 8/ psych - 7/ maths - 7/ spanish - 5/ RE - 8, 2750 B1 UCAT.

I applied Newcastle, Liverpool, Leeds, Plymouth, Liverpool (DT 5th choice) - rejected from all, 1 interview from Plymouth then rejected.

I achieved AAB (bio, psych, chem) and want to study dental therapy, where should I apply to get the best chance? (don’t want to do CASPER test)When should I write my personal statement for? Any advice for the personal statement would be greatly appreciated!!

DT is still a competitive course so you need to check which course you meet the entry requirements for and then prepare well for interview. You need to write your PS in time to submit your UCAS application by the 14 January equal consideration deadline. I'd recommend you complete it by early December and then fine tune it before submitting your application. For advice on writing a new PS (the format has changed this year), have a look at the following:

https://www.ucas.com/applying/applying-to-university/writing-your-personal-statement/the-new-personal-statement-for-2026-entry

Try to reflect on your work/volunteering experience and relate it to the NHS values.

Hi guys, I am a year 13 student applying to dental therapy and hygiene. My predicted grades are ABB for Psychology, Biology and Chemistry. I really wanna go Kings but I’m so scared they won’t take me even though my grades are above the minimum requirement. I heard Kings favours dental nurses with A levels as they have more experience in the field + they did a levels. There’s only 35 spaces in the course asw so that’s even scarier.I went to the open day this year and they said they had 1600+ applications for DHT. Do you guys think that now that they’ve added the casper test they will be more lenient about predictions? The other unis I wanted to apply are Birmingham, Cardiff and Queen Mary. I wouldn’t mind QMUL but I am also scared they are strict like kings.

Hey everyone,

I’ve applied for DHT at University of Essex, KCL and Queen Mary London.

I’m 33 and had my own aesthetics business for 8 years now and for the past few years have been focusing on cleft work treating adults who were born with cleft lips with dermal filler to create more structure and shape and a lot of these treatments I do completely free. I also do a lot of charity work with Smile Train and recently worked on a collab with Smile Train and Superdrug to raise awareness.

I failed my GCSE English as 18 years ago I was undiagnosed with ADHD and Dyslexia and really struggled with no support when I was younger but thankfully now I’m in a much better position so I’m retaking my GCSE English and currently studying Access to HE Health Science.

Nervous about not getting in because I’m having to retake old exams and also because I’m 33 and academic wise likely won’t complete with freshly qualified A level students but fingers crossed!

Thanks,
Lindsay
