Would it be a mistake to start a university course in January (2026)?

I think I need a bit of time to save money before I start my course (Creative Writing at MMU) but am starting to worry that this would be a bad idea. Am I likely to feel like I've missed out by starting in January rather than September, like most courses?

Should I try and wait until next September?

Let me know if anyone has started in January and regrets it, or really suggests doing it?

Hi @marrymerob

Our MA Creative Writing degree is a modular programme and the only real difference in terms of course structure between students that start in September vs those that start in January, is that students take the modules in a slightly different order; that’s also the case between studying full-time, part-time and distance learning, or the five specialist routes. Most of our MA students start in September (approx. 50/60), with a smaller cohort joining in January (approx. 20/30) but all modules are taught with a mix of students from each intake, new and returning.

I hope this helps. If you would like to discuss this course further, please get in touch with our Course Enquiries team and we can put you in touch with the Programme Lead: [email protected] or +44 (0)161 247 6969.

Mel 😊
