Gap Year, Changed Subjects, Predicted Grades + Uni Subject Choice

Hello, I really need some advice because my situation has gotten a bit complicated.

After AS, I had to take an unexpected gap year, as I failed my three subjects. I retook them, but there was not really much improvement. So now I'm in my second gap year, I've decided to completely change my subjects and switch from sciences and maths to humanities subjects : English, History, and Psychology (all Edexcel).

But here's what I'm stuck at :

- I want to apply to uni for 2026 entry (Spring/Fall), but to do this, I plan to sit for at least the first papers for my new subjects in Jan 2026.
- But for UCAS, I'll need predicted grades.
- The only exam center here is British Council, and they don't provide predicted grades.
- My previous school can't give me any since (1) teachers who taught me have left, and (2) I've never studied those new subjects with them.
- Enrolling in a new school isn't really an option for me, and I don't think tutors give predicted grades, do they? (tell me if they do bcz I don't know)
- Also, realistically, I don't think I can cover all exam papers for each of those three subjects in 4 months.

So...I'm honestly stuck and unsure of what I'm supposed to do. Can anyone please give me any advice or suggestion?

A side question : For A Level English - should I go for Language or Literature?
I did English First Language in IGCSE (got a grade 6). The course leaned more towards literature I guess, but I feel like Language might be more useful if I go for a Law major. Can you tell me your opinion of what is better and more helpful?

Also, do my subjects keep doors open for both Law and Business (excluding accounting, finance n economics)

Sorry you've not had any responses about this. :frown: Are you sure you've posted in the right place? Here's a link to our subject forum which should help get you more responses if you post there.

Hi! tutors can give you predicted grades! Many candidates are private students so they end up providing the grade given to them by their tutor or parents if thats whos teaching them! I got the highest mark in the UAE for Psychology Edexcel, so I can happily help you in that area, the students I have end up all getting As and A* by me teaching them the content within 2-3 months of the entire course - so if you need that ever, feel free to DM me!

I do think you could score a good average grade overall with the subjects you have, just needs intense studying of around 10 hours a day self study, because these are all content heavy subjects which you also need to write essays for, which is a whole other skill to develop. Its alot of memorising, but alot less than with the sciences, so you really just need to remember alot of main things + be amazing at waffling for english for example, pull interpretations out of nowhere (did eng lit too!)

Also more unis prefer lit over lang, but for law i dont think theres any specific requirement, so take what feels easier to you. An for your last question, I do believe there are no specific subject requirements for law or business, but id suggest a quick googling at entry requirements of both majors should confirm it
