Hi there!
I am currently about to start my second year at the University of Sheffield this September and have loved my experience so far! As you may already be aware the student's union has consistently been voted number one in the UK for the past 10 years! There are over 300 societies/clubs which you can have a look at here, I personally am a part of medics netball and the wilderness society where we go on walks to the peak district and get involved with emergency medicine simulations. But even if there isn't a society which you think is for you, you could always create your own!
Sheffield's location is ideal with a large shopping centre only a tram away and there are loads of green spaces which you could easily walk to from campus. There are many yummy independent restaurants and cafes too, my personal favourite being Bagels Inc. Sheffield also has a lively night life, if that is something that is important to you, with many bars and also Foundry, the student club, found within the students union!
I would really recommend Sheffield to anyone and there are always things to do here! Do you have any other questions I could help with?
