Master's Interruption Question

Hi, I am considering interrupting my master's degree, and I would like some advice on what my outcomes could be if I go ahead with the decision. For context, I am completing my dissertation and have asked for an extension to do so. I have heavily relied on these throughout the year, and it's been suggested by senior leadership that an interruption would be appropriate. This would mean I could come back and complete my dissertation later on in the year.

I wanted to know what the negative repercussions of this could be. I know this might look back on my university transcript, but more importantly, would employers look at me negatively? What other things should I think about before I make this decision?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hiya,

I'm not sure how it would look to employers. People take interruptions for all kinds of valid reasons, so I don't think it would automatically reflect badly on you, having that on your transcript - but I'm not that knowledgeable about these things.

One thing I would say is important to consider is: if you take time out, will it make things hard for you going back? For example, I was given the option of interrupting my undergrad degree on mental health grounds. I refused because I knew if I left for a short while, I'd find it really hard to gather the motivation/energy to go back to my uni city and the high pressure liftstyle, after time away. So interrupting (for me at least) would have meant abandoning the degree altogether.

Something to consider, depending on the reasons for interrupting
