SFE - Application in old name first? OR Name change first?

Hi there, I need some help from some SFE staff ideally.

I'm looking for some clarification on whether I should send in an application for my next year of Student Loan funding for the year 2025-2026 first, or send evidence of my name change first?

I have only recently notified my university of the name change this morning and so the new name has not been confirmed yet. However, I have changed my name officially with my bank account registered for student loans. I have ID available of both names, and a deed poll.

I am unsure of which to complete first, the application of funding for next year in my old name? or to submit the name change first? Both will be done this week, I am just wondering which will be less confusing for the person approving the evidence/ what option will lead to less delays or rejection.

I do understand it is quite late in the application process, so I'll have to move quick this week. :frown:

Thank you.

also am I right in understanding that to update my name, I simply need to upload a cover letter, along with a deed poll and ID to the "Upload supporting evidence" option of the current year?

Hi there. You can make the applicaiton and then upload your evidence to the applicaiton after you have submitted it under the upload supporting evidence option. Also, yes that's correct, your deed poll and a cover letter will be sufficient. Thanks, Leah.
