English literature remarking- I'm genuinely so confused

Never in my life have I ever gotten a 6 in English literature before but I open my results page and I see a 6 in English literature? I'm so confused. I get consistent 9s in mocks and tests and my teachers know I'm very strong in the subject. I'm 3 marks off a 7 so my schools gonna pay for my remark but even if I get a 7 it still doesn't feel justified. Like I made grade 9 essay plans with my teachers and use some of them in my writing. As well as that I definitely think my paper 1 was nothing below a grade 8/9 level. This feels so wrong. I would genuinely appeal my marks even if it came back as a 7 cause I know I did better. Mabye I should look at a copy of my paper to? But id have to pay for that and my school already sent my paper for a remark anyways. This just doesn't make any sense and I genuinely think something went wrong with the marking. For context, I got a very high 9 in English language. I assumed English literature would also be a 8/9. I think I answered every question well.

Can someone give any advice on what to do?

A 7 is still an excellent grade (a strong A equivalent). The gap between 7, 8, and 9 can be quite narrow in marks—sometimes just a handful of points across both papers. It doesn’t mean you suddenly got much weaker, just that under exam conditions, the examiner didn’t see quite enough evidence for the higher band.
I don't remember what the threshold looks like, but it could also be because if the threshold is too high, then you might get lower than what you would have normally gotten. Your teachers may also have been more lenient than true GCSE examiners.

Make sure not to panic. Ask one of the invigilators if they saw your paper. You'd be surprised, one probably knows what you wrote, and they can sit down with you and give you the support you may need. Don't be afraid to ask for help. Remember: Exams are stressful, not getting the grades you wanted only show you what to work on for next time. Id contact your English teacher and tell them that you believe the effort they put in could have been greater. Make sure to contact your head of year as well and report your English teacher if need be. If you're still unhappy, report your head of year to the principal, but I wouldn't go that far. Instead, relax. What's done is done. Que sera sera. Worrying will only make it worse.

Remember, you can always resit next year 😌
