Daughter starting law at Leeds but is commuting

Hi,

I hope you are well! Commuting does not have to mean that your daughter will miss out on freshers week, she will just have to have a rough plan if she is going to go on the freshers nights out about how to get home! How far is the commute for your daughter? and what form of transport will she be using to get to and from uni? I suppose the only issue would be public transport not running until late into the night and I can imagine the commute would be too far for an Uber/Taxi?

Nights out at clubs aren't the only activities that are available during freshers week though. The freshers fair will be a popular event and it is definitely worth the visit as it is a chance to sign up to lots of clubs and societies which will involve meeting lots of new people! All the courses will hold induction sessions aswell which will give your daughter a chance to meet the people that she will be studying with and is a good first opportunity to make new friends!

My best advice would be for your daughter to attend both the freshers fair and her induction sessions for her course and then maybe pick a couple of the nights out to go to, thats if she enjoys the drinking and partying side of uni which not everyone does but that is absolutely ok! Throughout the year your daughter will meet lots of new people and make many friends which means she could potentially stay with them at their uni accommodation now and again if she did want to stay and go out! I am sure it will be absolutely fine and your daughter will have the best time at uni!

Let me know if you have any other questions, I am more than happy to help!

Thanks, Matt 🙂

Hi looking at you all commuting how far are you travelling a day. It will be around an hour both ways . Interested as to how you will be organising social and structures whilst there

I'll be around 45-60mins commute each way also, if the social I wanted to go to involves drinking, I'd take the train, if it doesn't I'll just drive, however I am a mature student so I don't plan on as many wild nights out lol

I am not really interested in the club aspect either . Have you had your timetable yet. I am also going to look at lectures times for trains etc

I can see a placeholder timetable, stuff keeps swapping about though so not set in stone, should be finalised in September
