gcses and friends

basically im going into yr11 in september and im aiming for mostly 9s and like a few 8s but the thing is all of my friends are aiming for like 5s and stuff and they dont seem bothered at all with school and most of them got 2s and 3s in our year 10 mocks and i just find it really unmotivating if im the only one with high expectations and then everyone around me isnt aiming for the same thing and it ends up distracting me too because my friends talk about boys and drama and things and never really about school and for year 11 idk what to do bc it always unmotivates me then i start thinking i should just aim to get 7s and stuff and i dont want to make new friends because ive already tried and it hasnt worked and i cant be bothered anymore and theres not many people aiming for really high grades in my year, for year 11 i was thinking of spending most of my breaks and lunches at homework club because it would at least help a bit but the thing is my friend also wants to come with me which is fine but i feel like she might just be speaking to me mostly while im trying to revise and i prefer revising by myself so i rlly dont know what to do
Your life is your life, and their lives are theirs. Never mind what they're doing.

Honestly it’s a tricky situation but I say make your ambitions clear to them, You can focus on your education whilst having a social life but if they can’t accept you for being you then you might want to reconsider if they’re your real friends

I was in this exact same situation last year and I feel like if I had maybe talk more to people that I want to associate myself with I would have had more motivation to revise and aim for higher grads and honestly if you’re aiming for 9/8s it’s imperative that you find a group of people that are in your classes that you can at least talk to (I’m assuming you aren’t in the same sets your friends)

I finished my GCSEs and I was in a similar position too. My friends were like that too and it was really demotivating for me. What I did was try and find/make friends with people with similar aspirations. Even if it was just sitting next to them during lessons or in the library whilst I revising, it really helped me and them. Also make a balance between hanging out with friends and revision so you don’t stress yourself. Still prioritise your aspirations (in a healthy way). You will be thankful of yourself on results day, I saw many tears from the people who claimed to not ‘care’ and many people telling me they wished they ‘locked in’ as early as me.

Don't let your friends' lack of ambition deter you from doing amazingly. If you let it get to you now you're going to regret it so much on results day so I would advise spending more time at the library or homework club and revising effectively by yourself to avoid getting distracted by your friends

Hi @rana.x

Honestly I was in the same position as you when I was in secondary school.

If you just focus on yourself and put yourself first and everything will fall into place!

All the best,
