I rang the enrolment team and they have extended their deadline to sometime midweek.

what?! This is so stress inducing - I firmed Durham and thought I would have heard back ages ago this is horrible :frown:

Is there any point in calling them? I have been stressing for the past week as I was allocated St Chads, but I am now assuming I will be reallocated 😭

I just called - the college confirmation number didn’t pick up so I called general admissions who said the new deadline for college confirmation is wednesday and for login details it’s friday… I don’t think there is anything we can do we’ll just have to be patient x

It's been a while since I've been on TSR but I am in the same situation. My preliminary allocation (Hatfield) have been really nice and reassuring with it all, they seem to be adamant that I won't get reallocated but they don't seem to have much control. I didn't expect to be a priority since I missed my offer (by 4 marks :')) but it's so frustrating.

Hi!
I get the fear completely because I was in the exact same boat last year when I was enrolling at Durham. You will have to give the university administration a bit of time because they have a lot of things to process right now and send out. Hopefully you'll be getting all your things in order soon!
Hope this helps!

Thank you Lesath. I’m worried this delay will mean I can’t select the modules I want

I think you have to email this one [email protected] not the one that has undergrad in the email address. But even so I haven’t had a reply from either, whether it was emails I sent last week or emails from months ago.
Tbh I think the best people to get in contact with are the general uni help team or the admissions people bc at least they actually reply, but they will just tell you to go and email accommodation so it doesn’t really do much
As to preliminary allocations, yes a bit stupid considering half of people’s choices they just disregard anyway and the other half they reallocate. Might as well not bother asking for choices if they are going to do that and automatically allocate at random after results day which would surely be much quicker. Every other uni can manage it so why can’t Durham? Honestly I feel like I could do it better atp

It's a rubbish system. We went all the way up from Somerset on the holders' day. Daughter already had her A Levels and been accepted. She did loads of research about colleges. We visited her top 4 and listened to the speeches about how wonderful they are and why she should choose them. So she did. But ended up in her 8th choice. So an utterly pointless exercise. Just made her upset and took a bit of the shine off. Why put kids through it and create loads of wok?

Don't worry though, you're not alone. It was exactly the same for me and I submitted my rankings on the very first morning.

I wonder if people have any ideas on how to create an improved college allocation system?

Hello Everyone!
Having talked to the Admissions team, I can confirm that 90% of students have been allocated a college and for the remaining 10%, you can expect your allocation to come through by the end of today.
As for your login details, they will come out at the latest by the end of next Friday (12th September)
We know how stressful this experience is (having gone through it myself) but I can confidently say that you will not be disadvantaged at all in selecting modules or your experience here at Durham.
Thanks for being patient with us

Tbh the main problem is them trying to get a range of courses in each college. I get it’s historical, but colleges at Durham are literally just halls of residence called colleges and not academic like Oxbridge.

I think that the system is a bit outdated and they’d do better + make people happier if what they did was just have everyone rank them, and then allocate in order of preference going in a random order after their accom deadline. Obviously a lot of people will not get their top choice if it is castle or something but it seems to work out at other unis doing it this way and shouldn’t lead to people getting their 16th choice like one girl I know

More wasted time today. 7 calls to admissions. Zero pick ups. No emails. Come on Durham sort it out.

I received my username in an email this morning and it says allow 1-2 working days for the password - still no college but that’s something at least!

I’ve been on hold to admissions for the last 10 minutes and it doesn’t look like anything’s changing soon
