Unsure on Music A-Level

I got A*s, A and a Distinction in Additional Maths for my GCSEs, and for A-Levels I want to take English Lit, History and Music. I'm pretty set on the first two but unsure on Music - I'm aiming for Oxbridge, preferably the English Lit/Lang or History course. Would taking Music be a smart option, since I really enjoy it and would be committed to study it, or should I take Maths or Law or something viewed as 'smarter'? Would it be a mistake to take Music if I want to get into Oxbridge?

Have you looked at the entry requirements on the websites? Does it say anything about music being a disadvantage?

If you're really concerned, call them up tomorrow and ask. 🙂

It certainly wouldn't be a mistake (and I'm not sure Law would necessarily look much better. For English or History at Oxbridge, if you don't choose Music, you'd want a subject that better complements English and History - like a language, Classics, or RS/Philosophy - rather than a random STEM/social science). That said: bear in mind that Music A-Level tends to have a heavy workload. If you are naturally gifted at the subject, can compose quite well, and you enjoy the subject, then it shouldn't be a problem per se. Just something to be aware of

Hi @username7750677

Oxford university website states that it is essential to have an English literature a-level and helpful to have a language or history a-level (which you're already doing both). So I don't believe there will be harm in doing Music since you'll tick the main two boxes 🤗
