SFE Still Shows Me as a January Student – Need Payments from September

Hi everyone, I’m in a bit of a situation with my student finance. I originally applied to SFE as a January student because I started off as a January student, but I’m now starting my second year in September. SFE has told me that my first payment is set for January because they still see me as a January starter. They advised me to contact my university to withdraw my 2024–2025 application and re-register me as a new student for 2025–2026 so that my payments line up with my September start date. Has anyone experienced this before? How long did it take for your university to process the withdrawal and re-registration so SFE could update your payments?

Hi there,

Just to clarify, the reason for this is because students aren't normally allowed to change their season intake.

So, in your case, has your university agreed to withdraw and re-register you as a September start, are they okay with that?

Thanks, Graeme

Hi there. If they confirm your are allowed to withdraw and re resisted as a new student it's taking us around 17 working days to process any changes once received from the university. Please be aware that if you apply as a new student then you will be classed as using 1 year of your funding from the January intake meaning you will lose the additional year we give in case you have to repeat any years of the new course (new intake). Thanks, Leah.

Hi Leah,

Thank you so much! Question I'm going to 2nd year, so apart from this year I would only have third year left, so that would be three years altogether, would that still mean I don't have my additional year?

Hi there,

Yes, based on what you have advised you should receive the finance for the new course. It's only if you need to resit any year in your new course, Leah was then making you aware you wouldn't be funded for the resit.

Thanks,
Claire
