UK national living in EU

Hi, wondering if anyone can help. My application for a masters loan was rejected on the basis of my residency. They kept saying I need to live in the UK 3 years prior to my course. I have received 3 years of undergrad finance and my situation is no different. My family live in Germany and I moved to uni on September 15th 2022 and have essentially been living in the UK since. This is obviously just under three years. However, the home address I gave them was on Germany as this is where I am not during term time. It is my understanding that UK nationals living in the EU on or before December 30th 2020 are eligible. I have written to the residency team explaining this but would appreciate some advice. It seems ludicrous when I lived in the Uk till I was 10, have a national insurance number etc and the policy is there in black and white. Thanks for any help

Hi there,

Based on what you have advised it would be best to contact the Postgraduate Team directly to query this further on 0300 100 0031. They can check what you put down on the application and what the team are exactly needing from you.

Thanks,
Claire

Hi Claire,
thanks for your reply. I phoned them yesterday and the first guy didn’t even tell me there was a residency team. Second guy was much more helpful and told me to write them a letter which I have done explaining the above. I’m just anxious as it takes 9 days to get a reply from when they get it and I’m meant to start in 2 weeks. Unfortunately no one on the phone seemed to understand the rules for EU residents and kept telling me I need to live in the UK for three years.

Hi Jontytodd,

The letter you have provided should iron out any discrepancies that there may have been in relation to your eligibility. Once our assessors have reviewed this, they will contact you directly to confirm if this has been accepted or if there is something specific that would be required. Keep an eye on your email as well as your online account as they will update you directly as soon as this is reviewed.
