retaking 2 a levels or 1 + learning a new one (or not)

so for personal reasons i took only 2 a levels in biology and psychology this year and due to my circumstances i got a C in psychology and a D in biology, only due to everything being resolved like a 2 months before exams (wouldve geniunely failed with like UU) . I'd like to apply for optometry this year but obviously my grades are not the best. i could do a foundation year and use my C in psych and aim for B in biology and retake a new a level and achieve a C which seems doable however i dont want to do a foundation year. Optom in city uni as i hit the contextual requirment requires BBB for the main course, so is it possible to learn chemistry In a year to a B standard and bring up my psych and bio to a B or is this too much. should i just retake 1 and learn an easier a level and do a foundation year.

Hi @obizzy, I'm very sorry you've had such a tough year and congratulations on finishing your a-levels. The decision is of course completely yours, however I would personally start a foundation year as that means you can start studying in the field you want to do straight away and get familiar with the university you would be studying at for your degree. Resitting all your a-levels plus an extra one after such a tough year sounds quite stressful and overwhelming to me, however if you think its completely doable and are happy to do that then it is still a good option.

Hopefully this helps and let me know if you would like any more advice : )

I think it’s doable as I feel so behind now and ready, I’ll update you in the end. I guess my worst case scenario is the foundation year so I may just take 3 in hopes of getting into the main course. Thank you for the kind message

sorry it’s been rough for you, since you already know the course you should be able to just fill in the gaps to jump the grades but you’ll have to work hard. chemistry a level is quite repetitive once you get used to the mark schemes but they are very pedantic about things like units and language used depending on the exam board.

It sounds like the best option for you then if that's what your heart is set on. Since you already sat two of the a-levels previously, the workload shouldn't be too overwhelming as it'll be more of a recap and further revision on the those two subjects rather than learning new content.

Best of luck!
