Urgent question

I am just about to enter my third and final year of my nursing programme in Scotland . I was pulled off my latest placement due to false allegations and had to have a fit to practice . The fit to practice was all sorted with no further action . My interim from placement the day before I was pulled was positive . I have now not completed all the hours required to complete the placement but it was the uni that pulled me . I have now been told one week before third year starts that they had received feedback from the placement and I have failed it . I had no warning that I was failing . As you cannot go into a new year with a failed placement this will now cause me to not being able to progress into the new year. They sent me an email saying I’ve to come in for a meeting next week to discuss a support plan . I know what this means . They will force me into an interruptions academic suspension or break in studies . Please tell me are they allowed to do this ? I’m a 53 year old student who has worked hard these last two years and I would have progressed owing only one module assessment which still qualifies me to progress but not with a failed placement . Please help anyone

It’s unusual that you only found out about the failure at this stage. You should have been told about this early on so that you could complete a summer retrieval? Unless this was already a retrieval placement?

Hiya , it wasn’t a retrieval , I was pulled off placement for this investigation with a week and a half left of the placement so not all hours were completed , they said I need to wait until the official results come through from SAB and then I can appeal it , if I don’t appeal or I lose the appeal if I do then I will be off for the year snd then redo the placement next year , this means that I will graduate a year later than planned . I haven’t decided yet whether I want to appeal as rbis has been a tough year so I may just take some time off after everything that has happened but I can appeal if I want to becasue it wasn’t on my own doing that I didn’t compete the placement

Hi

I would urgently recommend you get in touch with your university student union representative and get them on your case and then they will support you from there.... Do it asap please okay..., it might be worth it but usually when you failed a placement you can still go into your next academic year and then your university course leader and placement officer will organise a suitable placement place for you to go and complete it alongside your current academic year coursework - you could easily do the placement instead of attending university study blocks week and do your university study weeks coursework online and you complete it and forward it on.

You would have been given plenty notice regarding your failed placement issues from the university so don't understand what happened here with you 😭 reasons why I would urgently get in touch with your university student union representative okay... Do it Monday morning.

I had a student in similar position coming into final year and they did the placement and online coursework or alternative you can do your failed placement during your university study weeks and also catch up with some shifts on your actual placement weeks okay. You can make up the hours before you finally qualify as per NMC guidance.

I gather you don't want to say which NHS health board you are working under or university....
Obviously I can't predict what they will do if you ask about it okay.

Hello,

I am so sorry you’re going through this. If it’s only one placement you failed there’s the possibility of them adjusting your timetable and adding a placement block before the start of your third year. First, appeal their decision then try suggesting doing a retrieval placement.

All the best
