will betty survive her a levels? a yr 12 gyg

ladies and gents, i'm back! and this time i'm actually starting my gyg in september, which is great for me. hopefully this time i will post less eratically

lets just say gcses went... not so good, i don't really want to talk about them. predicted mostly 9 and then only get 1 (though i did get close to full marks in history) so cambridge is probably dead in the water, though i've mostly got my eyes on durham. a levels are a chance to wipe the slate i suppose.

βœ¦β€’Β·Β·Β·Β·Β·Β·Β·Β·Β·Β·Β·Β·Β·Β·Β·Β·Β·Β·Β·Β·Β·Β·β€’βœ¦β€’Β·Β·Β·Β·Β·Β·Β·Β·Β·Β·Β·Β·Β·Β·Β·Β·Β·Β·Β·Β·Β·Β·β€’βœ¦

β€’

i'm doing a levels - history, film, english literature - and probably an epq depending on how much my college believes in me.

β€’

in the background, i'm doing abrsm grade 4 music theory and voice, and my goal is to get to grade 6 voice hopefully if i can actually do ear training

goal: (art) history at a good russel group university.

βœ¦β€’Β·Β·Β·Β·Β·Β·Β·Β·Β·Β·Β·Β·Β·Β·Β·Β·Β·Β·Β·Β·Β·Β·β€’βœ¦β€’Β·Β·Β·Β·Β·Β·Β·Β·Β·Β·Β·Β·Β·Β·Β·Β·Β·Β·Β·Β·Β·Β·β€’βœ¦

please note!
i'm disabled, which will be running theme of my blog. i am neurodivergent (autism, dcd and adhd plus some other things) and i have fatigue issues, frequent headaches and nerve pain. this can massively affect how i study hence why i'm posting this in the first place: it can be very hard to express to people, considering i'm a conventionally pretty able-bodied young woman, how hard it can be to get through the day. all of these things are great when you're trying to study but can't bear to look at a computer.

fun facts about betka!

expect my usual irregular posting, dissapearances and jazz. going to be posting a song of the day because it makes me happy. hope to meet fellow a level history people or fellow disabled students!

Don’t worry about your gcse results, you did your best :console:
Cool a level combo, any ideas what you’d do an EPQ on if they end up letting you?
I know it’s a long way off yet but don't limit yourself to Russell group unis, theyre no better than a lot of other unis!
Your own language sounds really awesome!
@Geo Lover 7 and @Daisy._.7777 do History too for a level πŸ™‚

thanks Drac! i'm kind of gunning for my durham (my beloved)

for my epq i'm honestly not sure, i've got a long list of basic ideas and knowing myself, i'll have to do it on an interest of mine

β€’

something related to saphir-worf hypothesis

β€’

potentially relating to fantasy literature or worldbuilding

β€’

sex and desire in gothic literature since my college does dystopia and i know way too much about dracula

β€’

art history in general, i've got a lot of little art history subtopics that i'm fascinated by: mainly orientalism, impressionism and pre-raphaelites. also about the history of red hair in art is particularly fascinating to me for odd reasons

β€’

i'm really struggling with non-art-history related epq ideas and is it driving me a little insane? yes. also considering my love of russian and medieval history i'm worried there will be overlap between my a levels which is not good ;-;

my brain is currently spinning. a lot

Durham sounds like a great choice!
Those are some really interesting sounding ideas, im sure a teacher at your sixth form will be able to advise on subject cross-over and which ideas will make a good project πŸ™‚

Hi Betkabot,

I did A Level History (and Biology and Chemistry) and am now doing a History degree, entering 2nd year in September. I also have physical disabilities and chronic pain (but no neurodiversity). I have a similar issue (when I don’t need to use my crutches) that people don’t understand why I need to sit down or have a please offer me a seat badge from TfL.

Looking forward to seeing how you are doing during A Levels. Don’t worry about your GCSEs now. There is other stuff to focus on, sure they might impact Cambridge (though you may have extenuating circumstances with your disabilities), but plenty of other universities are good at Art History. Enjoy your volunteering and your A Levels. They go by both quickly and slowly.

term starts on the 8th officially but we've got a couple of orientation days between 1st-3rd sept. really late for some reason considering every other college i have friends going to started back within this last week (including one of the lads who started back on 26th)

cosby victory show! made a few friends, met a celebrity and also bought some very cool items (an old compact, hair nets, 2 belts, 2 blouses and a pair of shoes). saw a lot of cool planes as per ever and got rockabilly hair done for me. me and my mother try to do victory rolls/1940s hairstyles and unfortunately nothing ever looks as good as the victory show stall. the rain did try and hunt me down.

β€’

did a part of my english transition work that i had been dreading: an essay on harrison bergeron by kurt vonnegut. i wrote down all my ideas and a rought draft but words are hard so i'll finish that tommorrow. history hasn't been done yet at all but it annoys me that the history transistion work is all videos ... my least favourite format because mild audio processing issues. and they don't even have subtitles! so we'll power through eventually

β€’

listened to a new album hence the two songs of the day

β€’

did a little bit of conlanging involving cultural worldbuilding

honestly i'm the one person who prefers treasure to heaven or las vegas album wise. heaven or las vegas is better overall but treasure has lorelei and persephone which just hit. i didn’t talk a lot about my music last time round but definitely are going to be doing so more ... probably

song of the day:don't look back into the sun - the libertines

- it just didn't happen today for me. very low energy.
- i had some (read little) energy/spoons so i ended up on the phone to my friends talking about eurovision and minecraft
- poor communication made me think i start later than i do. i start on the 4th
- i discovered hamish hawk's music and i thought i'd be normal about it... i'm not. big cat tattoos has buried itself in my brain

:goodluck: with Year 12.
Those GCSEs are great.
My (older younger) brother wants to do similar A-Levels.
I'm also a disabled student and do A-Level History. What topics do you do?
Also what exam boards are your A-Levels?
