Crashing higher physics

I’m feeling a bit lost. I joined the class late and they’re already halfway through the Dynamic Universe, and I didn’t do National 5. I really need to aim for an A for uni, so I’m trying not to panic but I’m not sure where to begin.

Would you recommend jumping straight into the Dynamic Universe to keep up with the class, or should I go back and build up the basics first? Also if anyone has suggestions for resources or revision tips that are good for crashers, I’d be so grateful.

Any advice on how to catch up and stay on top of things would honestly mean a lot.

Thank you 🫶🏾

I would speak to your teacher ASAP, as I doubt you are the first person to join late. They wouldn't let you join if they didn't think you were capable of catching up.

I know nothing about Higher Physics, but going back to the basics, to me at least, seems like a sensible start. I don't know what revision materials are out there for High Physics either, so unfortunately I can't help you with that.

hellooo, thanks for the tag 🙂 I'd be glad to help considering i did higher physics (not a crash)
so firstly, at the weekends i would try look over the matching national 5 content, e.g. if you are doing suvat equations, i would go back and look at all the projectiles stuff from national 5 and any related questions. i think because this is a new decision, it isn't really feasible to try to go back and build up the basics while balancing higher content; you're inevitably going to burn out or fall behind.
for resources i would definitely use scholar, it was brilliant. for revision, esp for crashing, always go home and go over the stuff you did in class, try practice questions and make sure you can absolutely understand the concept behind it.
any questions you're struggling with, post them here or better yet in the physics study help forum, where many people are able to help
what topics have you done in class so far? i can try to maybe give topic-specific tips?
UNIT 1
1) motion - be able to read info from any type of graph and do calculations with it. the only way to understand suvat is to do a billion questions on it.
2) forces - imo the hardest topic bc the questions they ask u are pretty weird and difficult. go back to n5 forces and understand the basics here before attempting higher. understand ur parallel and down the slope weight components. also be able to move between weight and tension equations pretty easily (including with sin and cos)
3) collisions - memorise the equations, they will be super helpful. just practice, again. understand force-time graphs and factors changing the impulse/momentum; knowledge of physics of this tend to show up in the exam
this is quite brief and haphazard, but any other questions you have you can always pm me!

Hiya! (:

Snap i also crashed higher physics lolol!! (allbeit it a few years ago but still) 😊

When i was crashing i also found i was a little lost at first, as @imxa6 was mentioning online rescourses like scholar are fab for that type of thing, if its still the same as when i did it on there it shows you the learning intention's for each topic, notes and then little mini-quizes to test your knowledge and understanding of the topic, before then applying this to past paper questions

Personally when going through stuff, anything i was unsure about or just missing previous info i would ask my teacher! - every week my school did a hour or so of physics study where i would be able to do this and get some clarification, Definitely recommend this type of thing if its available! or just emailing these questions over, your teachers are there to help and will be more than happy to do so 😊

When i was crashing i also knew a couple people who had done the N5 and with certain topics that were a bit more confusing to wrap my head around, i'd ask to see their old notes, just gave me a bit more of a base - i didnt do this for everything as just way wayyyy to much info! - but sometimes found it useful when it was completly new (:

I also found studying with other people to be really useful, i found a lot of the time things that were confusing me were things that just hadn't been fully explained and just presumed you remembered from the N5 - By doing this i was able to patch up stuff as i went along!

Unsure if you've done any other higher sciences before, but i also found that with the past papers the techniques for answering were very similar to how you would in biology and chemistry - obviously very different questions lol - but i would think through the problems in a similar way 🤗 - i was also doing adv higher chem at the same time and found there was some crossover in the content which helped a little (:

hope this helps, goodluck!! 💜
