How does this work for ucas applicants on a gap year?

Hi.

I’ve just achieved my A-levels and am going to be going on a gap year and applying to certain universities.

I emailed them and they said they would require proof of my qualifications like A-level exam certificates emailed to them if they made me an offer.

But, this confused me because why would they need proof from me - doesn’t UCAS send them some sort of verification like how for people in Year 13, UCAS directly sends their results to their universities, wouldn’t UCAS similarly retrieve my old A-level results or send some sort of data-feed to confirm them?

It just seems like unnecessary hassle as they don’t ask Year 13s to bring in A-level certificates yet would ask me to - which if they can already verify by UCAS seems unnecessary. But, I might be wrong and they might not be able to verify as UCAS might not do that for people on a gap year. I’m not sure so would like clarification.
Can I ask why you don’t believe any of the guidance you received from admission staff answering this same question over multiple threads?

Because I need a final confirmed answer as I keep getting conflicting answer and it’s stressing me out as I’m so confused. I phoned UCAS they said they don’t confirm grades; I contacted some universities who said they can verify through UCAS while others said they rely on exam certificates; some posters here mentioned that UCAS is involved.

I just need a thorough answer so I know how to prepare everything for my gap year.

One of the very first things I told you is that there is no universal verification process across unis.

Your quals might be verifiable by UCAS, in which case you don’t need to do anything.

If not, the uni will explain their verification process to you.

There’s nothing to prepare for at this stage. Concentrate on submitting a strong application rather than the hoops you might have to jump through later.
