further maths

so i’m going into yr 13 and over the summer i went over all of yr2 of a level maths content and have asked my school if i could join further maths ( as they do all fm content in yr 13 and have covered a level maths in yr12 but sit all the exams in the coming yr).
however they said no as the entry requirement was a 9 and i was three marks off so they aren’t letting me.
i want to still do it so id have to do it privately but its really expensive and also id have to get predicted grades too. any advice or help?

No University degree requires FM. and by doing this you risk messing up your 3 main grades - so what's the point.

I say only pursue this is you are VERY set on going to a very top uni for maths / econ (eg UCL or Oxbridge), as they definitely prefer applicants with fm (I had friends get rejected pre interview from cambridge for not doing fm when his skl offered it) - if your skl offers it and you haven’t taken it, it could disadvantage you. However, maybe talk to your school more about this, and see if there is any way they could accept you? If you aren’t applying to such unis or such courses then there is really no point in doing fm - both due to time and cost.
