Doctor here – ask me anything about A-levels + applying to medicine 🎓

Hi all,
I’m a doctor now, but I remember sitting A-levels and worrying about whether I was making the right choices for medicine. Over the next 24 hours I’ll be hanging around to answer questions about subject choices, personal statements, admissions tests, or just what medical school is really like.
Drop a comment and I’ll do my best to help.

Hey, I'm pretty set on medicine and I'm taking Maths Further Maths Bio and Chem. I've always just wondered whats your take in medicine in the UK, since there's a lot of bad press about it and whether you think its a good career for someone to get into in this current climate. Or do you think it'd be better to leave the UK

Please remember that not everyone on TSR is who they say they are.

Its always had its ups and downs, since the beginning of the NHS.

Imo its best to get into something when its NOT working well, as there are more opportunities

You considering it?

Nah, kidding.
It's just a box-ticker anyhow.

I doubt half of them even read it if the other stuff is OK. B'ham doesn't read them at all.

They help with the interview then, they use it during it- so it counts for the last stage!

Yeah - they do.
The Cheltenham Pentagon's latest weapon is CopyCatch. It can detect AI like I detect kebabs on the wind a mile away.
UCAS is promising to use it on every personal statement and if it detects a conflict in styles (inevitable if it's mostly your own guff, though partially AI), they sprint straight to your schools of choice like a six-year old at primary school telling the teacher that another six-year old ate his jelly.
At which point you're fu***ed.
Then it's either Buckinghamshire or Central Lancashire "medical schools".
Failing that, the Sofia Institute for Medical Stuff, Bulgaria.
But we've left the EU.
So even that one's off the table.

If you can keep doing it would look good

But if not, bio/chem/maths is the minimum

Better to get 3A’s then struggle and one of them be a ‘B’!
