AMA: I’m a doctor happy to help with med school applications 👩*⚕️

Hi future medics,
I went through the UK medical school process and now work as a doctor. I know how confusing UCAS, UCAT, interviews, and work experience can feel when you’re starting out.
I’ll be around for the next 24 hours to answer your questions and share what I wish I’d known.

Please could you share a few med schools that do NOT put emphasis on grades achieved at GCSEs? I've only done 5 GCSEs and received a 7 on all except English Language. And it's really frustrating to find the right information on the internet.

Rather than the internet, its best to call them and check- the admission office will give you the only accurate information based on your unique circumstances

That's very kind of you. My kid will be a first time UK university goer as I did my education abroad. The whole application process is very daunting. I am trying to find out top UK universities for medicine but seeing very different results. My kid did quite well in GCSE and has been predicted all A*. With a good UCAT score, she has a good chance to get an interview from top universities. But my concern is we want to be safe in applying as not all universities look holistically and majorly rely on interview performance alone! I have no idea how the interview will go, hence as she is very much set on pursuing medicine want to apply strategically. She wants to apply Oxford for sure, contemplating between Imperial, UCL and KCL - need to choose two of these. Does all UK medical schools have interviews as mandatory, if not would be better to put the 4th choice as one that does not require interview. Also is it a good idea to put 3 universities as top one?
Any advice and guidance on this is highly appreciated.

Very common for interviews. Advice would be to practice practice practice. Interview skills can be beneficial in the long run and are improvable.
