Student Finance-Maintenance Loan

Hi there,

Last year, I applied for student finance for my uni course, but only did tuition fee loan for Eu students, as it was easier to apply just for that, while I was eligible for the maintenance loan as well. I’m an Eu student with settlement status, I’ve been living in the uk for 5 years, and I’m also over 25. So I would like to apply for maintenance loan as well as this is my final year, and would like mainly focus just on studying. How am I doing that? As the tuition fee loan is confirmed for this year as well. If someone could help me I would really appreciate it.

Hi there. If you applied on an EU form initially you will need to complete a new applicaiton called a PN1 form, as we will need to transfer your EU account over to the SFE account with this form. Student finance application forms and notes for new 2025 to 2026 full-time students - GOV.UK

You will need to complete the full form and post this in with any evidence (if applicable). Thanks, Leah.

I’m a returning student, do I still have to do the new student form?

Yes, that's right - although you're not a new student we need you to use the PN1 when you want the Maintenance Loan for the first time.

Thanks, Graeme
