Thank you for the response! When I try to access the module timetable, it won't allow me in. Is our username meant to still be our email?

It should be just your CIS code which is in the format ABCD12

Hi there
When do you normally get an update about the type of room that you choose? I have received my college but I have given my room type preference with no reply. Postgraduate student here

Hey Durham Reps. there are people who had Durham as firm who still haven’t had their college confirmed. Without this they can’t do any planning for uni. The colleges are super helpful but they are all waiting for the central admissions office to get their act together. That team has no phone number, doesn’t answer email and is v frustrating to deal with.

The experience is v poor compared to other unis.

I’m pretty clear on the basis of this that we wouldn’t be advising future students at schools in our district.to go for Durham.

Hi!

I completely understand how frustrating this experience is for all new students having gone through it through myself. However, having seen it from the other side the university has a lot to sort through when assigning colleges and rooms, given how different room types are at different colleges, accessibility needs and wide array of different factors.

I can say however that all new students should expect your college acceptance by the end of today and all your login credentials by the end of next Friday (12th September). Plus, I can confidently say that no student is disadvantaged in terms of module selection and their college experience at Durham based on when they received their college confirmation.

Hope this explains a bit of what's going on!

Hear, hear!

Goodness knows what reading and other prep I am supposed to be doing, what things I need to cobble together for my room (if indeed I have one), whether or not I need to self-cater and indeed whether I can even afford the type of accommodation I am given. It’s a nightmare. The last deadline I was given was today but the accommodation people aren’t answering their phone and I will have to wait till after the weekend.

Durham was aspirational for me but there’s no way I’d recommend it to others

Figured out the login issue, but this is the most non-user-friendly format ever to display timetabling

Hi Lesath
Just to note that - despite the above assurance - there are still a number of people who have still not heard about their college at the end of yesterday; are you able to check or confirm please whether the team responsible for this is working this weekend to sort out the mess? I expect we’ll all be emailing and phoning and it would be good to know whether that’s a waste of time or not!
Thank you for your help

Hi Lesath
Thanks for responding to these messages. We are getting more from you than the folk who are being paid to sort this stuff out. It’s much appreciated.

If you have any communication route with admissions tutors, even in your college I think it’s worth advising them this is a reputational issue for the Uni. Offer holders are telling their story to their peers and schools who will feed it back to future years.

I’m guessing the Uni has gone big on numbers this year to try to cover uni finances. They won’t be able to do that in future years if people are put off applying.

Its a good story for the press that you really don’t want.

That website is only provisional. Your actual timetable will show up on mytimetable.durham.ac.uk

Hi there and thanks for the thread!
Can you advise re the academic term dates that are on the website please - do people usually leave straight away at the end of term and come back the day before term starts, or is there a requirement to be there outside of the academic term dates? In particular I’m thinking of working in the Christmas holidays, and when I would need to travel back to Durham in January…

Hey! The official term dates on the website refer to when teaching, exams, and university activities are scheduled, but they don’t usually include any requirement to remain in Durham outside of those dates. Most students do head home at the end of term and return just before the start of the next one. For the Christmas holiday specifically, students generally leave once term ends and then return in early January, often the weekend before term officially starts. If you’re planning on working over the holidays, you will be fine to return just before the start of Epiphany Term.

Hi, you will first see your exact room when you arrive and check in. In terms of accommodation confirmation, I imagine it will be soon once they have organised the freshers. I hope this helps.😊

Hi! What are term-time job opportunities in Durham like? Does the SU offer paid work? Thanks

Hi!

There are definitely term-time job opportunities in Durham. The SU does offer some paid work, mainly through student leadership roles. Outside of that, the university does have other options.

One of the main ones is working as a Durham Student Ambassador that’s a paid role where you help out with open days, campus tours, school visits, and outreach activities. Lots of students do this alongside their studies because the hours are flexible, and it looks great on a CV. I did this over my 4 years at Durham.

I hope this helps you 🙂 Good luck with everything.

Been allocated to St Aidan's just wondering how bycle-friendly the college is and how easy or difficult it will be to cycle on a daily basis??

Reply 36

Also what what sort of percentage of Durham students do regularly cycle? I'm aware that there are a few hills in and around the city.

Hi! From what I’ve seen, only a small amount of Durham students regularly cycle. The hills definitely put some people off 😅, but cycling is still very doable, especially if you’re used to it or don’t mind a bit of a workout. The university has improved cycle paths and storage, and there’s also a really active cycling club if you want to get involved. So while it’s not the majority, there’s definitely a community of regular cyclists here.

Hey, sorry you’re having trouble with receiving your login info. You can try completing the form or calling the number on this page. From what I can see, that would be the best way.

I hope things get sorted soon for you and Good Luck at Durham 😊!!
