As a mature student myself, I'd recommend reaching out to the lecturers you are going to be working with and ask for some required reading that will help you with the course. As for getting a distinction every time? well, firstly, you should be given a marking scheme for all assignments, and learning outcomes too - together they're an instruction manual to completing the assignment. the learning outcomes are basically "this is the point of the assignment", it's what the university wants you to know about the subject; the marking scheme is a measure of how well you have understood, analysed. and/or demonstrated your knowledge of the subject through the writing you have produced. Look into critical thinking, learn how to use it in uni work, work on your presentation skills, both orally and written - check your spelling! - Reference well, make sure references are appropriate and recent, and present them properly (you can lose a point or 2 if it's not in alphabetical order for instance). But must importantly...relax a little, and don't be so harsh on yourself - distinctions are great, and something to aim for, but merits and passes are perfectly fine too - burning out is always a risk if you constantly aim to be 'perfect'...you are at the very beginning of your academic journey, nobody is expecting you to be getting gold stars every time

Congrats on starting your Access to HE in Health and Human Sciences 🎉 To prepare, it helps to get familiar with academic writing, referencing, and critical analysis since that’s what most assignments are assessed on. Achieving distinctions is about understanding the marking criteria, structuring arguments clearly, and presenting polished work.
I support students with exactly this. I provide guidance on planning, writing, and refining assignments so they meet distinction-level standards. If you’d like consistent support throughout your course, I’d be glad to help make the process smoother and less stressful.

Hi Eve

Sorry to interrupt, but may you please 🙏kindly help as I currently registered on this very same course too. Instead I’m doing DLC. Which books can I get to study . I will be fully depending on myself and doing some research.
