Midwifery degree and social life

I am due to start my midwifery in September and am so excited, this has been my dream job for years. I have a very active social life - a boyfriend, friends. I’m aware this course is high demand and fairly consuming. I am feeling nervous about the change in life however know this comes with choosing a different degree. Is it possible to maintain a social life whilst doing midwifery? I have been working a full time job for the past 2 years and have been pretty ok with the balance however aware midwifery is a whole new level of work.

Congratulations @Tigertops22 ! As a current Student midwife going into my final year, I can agree that midwifery is intense, the placements alongside academic work can feel a lot at times. But I do feel I've developed my way balancing social life and academics over time. What's helped me is using apps such as TimeTree to place my shifts on a calendar and university on campus days so when my friends do ask a day I would be available to attend a day out i know what days are free. Also using the term breaks to your best advantage because you are almost guaranteed the most flexibility. Try not to neglect your social life you can't pour from an empty cup, if you find yourself struggling talk to your personal tutor or lecturer.

If you have any more questions I'm here to help😊

Thank you so much for getting back to me! I really appreciate it, it’s really reassuring to hear that balance can be found within the degree. I’ll give you another message if any other questions or thoughts come up. Thank you so much again❤️
