Seeking Top-Rated Psychology Programs with Affordable Living

Hi everyone! I'm planning to study psychology and am looking for universities that are highly respected in the field. My predicted grades are A*BB, and I'm particularly interested in places where accommodation is affordable. I love reading about psychology in my spare time, so a university with strong academic resources would be ideal. Any recommendations or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated!

Hi! A student who studied Psychology at the University of Reading here! From my experience it strikes a good balance between academic resources and student life. The psychology department is very research-based and most staff do their own research alongside teaching, which creates great opportunities to learn from current studies and even get involved in projects. The course itself covers a really broad range of topics in the core modules such as developmental psychology to neuroscience, and there is always optional modules to choose from so you could tailor your degree to your interests. The library was a real highlight for me too, with excellent psychology resources that made independent study much easier. In terms of accommodation, I found the range quite broad: the cheaper halls were around £158.06 per week, with utilities included. Campus life was very community-oriented, and being just a short train ride from London meant you could dip into the city without the daily expense of living there. Overall, I’d say Reading offered me solid academic support alongside a manageable cost of living, which helped me focus on my degree.

Hello @olihol24,

That’s great to hear you are considering studying psychology! I currently study it at the University of Southampton and love it, so I would definitely recommend it.

Southampton is a very affordable city to live in. A popular accommodation is Glen Eyre, which has a price range from £153 to £276 a week, depending on which room you are allocated. Wessex lane is also a popular option with the price ranging from £135 to £245 a week. You can find out more about these here.

Southampton is ranked highly for psychology and is a Russel Group uni, meaning that it has a great reputation academically. There is lots to get involved with in psychology, including social events, extra curricular learning and opportunities to take part in research.

All of the staff are so friendly and are always willing to help. There are also opportunities to help them with their research via the voluntary research assistant scheme.

I hope this helped and let me know if you’d like any more information!

Hi, have a look at UEA, it has a great reputation, a fab psychology department with lots of programmes having a common first year and you decide at the end of year 1. Campus and city are lovely and affordable.
