CS and Maths Degree - what to expect?

Hi, wondering if anyone might be able to shed light on how intense a CS and Maths degree might be in the first year. All my friends say their first year was incredibly relaxed and they didn't do much - but they didn't study STEM. Wondering if it's the same.

First year will be getting everyone up to speed. You'll likely go over FM topics and A'level(ish) CS topics + some new stuff.
