Laptop recommendations for architecture

Hi, I’m starting uni soon and need advice on laptops. I first considered a MacBook (fits my ecosystem) but realised they’re not ideal for the software I’ll need.

Now I’m looking at options like the Asus Zephyrus G14/G16, Asus ProArt, and Lenovo Legion/yoga slim etc. The uni recommends 8-16GB RAM, 500GB SSD, and an i7, but I’d prefer 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD, and a good Intel/NVIDIA setup to future-proof (undergrad, placement, masters). I understand that I’ll have to pair this with a desktop for maximum efficiency.

My top choice was the Zephyrus G16 (£1.8k–£2.1k), but my parents want me to wait until lectures to confirm what’s needed. I understand their reasoning, but I’m a bit nervous about starting the course without everything prepared.

Any recommendations?

Hello,

You will need a heavy-duty laptop for architecture since you will be using programmes like Revit, AutoCAD, Rhino, SketchUp which require GPU acceleration and large memory. ASUS ProArt Studiobook 16 OLED (H7604) might be a good idea since it balances power (i9 CPU, RTX 4070, 32 GB RAM, 1 TB SSD). If that stretches your budget, the MSI Creator M16 HX is a strong alternative with similar specs.

All the best☺️😊
