Hey @Gottogetready!

I studied BA (Hons) Fine Art and Art History at Kingston and used an ASUS Vivobook 15 X515EA. I found it to be a great everyday laptop - the battery life was long enough that I didn't need to charge it during or in-between lectures and it had lots of available memory (512GB).

Which laptop will be right for you ultimately depends on your artistic practice. I was primarily a painter and installation-based artist, which meant I wasn't creating too many digital pieces - as long as I could do basic tasks and write assignments on my laptop, I was happy. Other artists on the course were primarily illustrators/animators, and preferred touchscreen laptops or iPads for digital drawing.

Whilst a laptop is definitely useful for uni, try not to worry too much about choosing the best one. As a Kingston University student, you'll have access to the Digital Media Workshop (DMW) at KSA; if you have a project that you can't technically accomplish on your laptop, you can always complete it there with the help of the DMW workshop technicians. 🙂

Best of luck with your course!
