Adding passport to student finance application

Hi , just looking for some advice. I've tried asking on live chat but they didn't seem to understand and gave conflicting advice , I can't get through on the phone. I didn't have a valid passport when I did my application in July.
I have now renewed my passport and I want to use it as my identity evidence. How do I add my passport details to my application?
The lady on live chat suggested that I scanned it in and then uploaded the scanned in copy onto my account ,I didn't think this was allowed?
Many thanks for any help!

Hi there, is the passport a UK passport? Is your application still awaiting identity evidence? Thanks, Stephen

Hi Stephen , yes it is a UK passport and yes it is saying it is. I uploaded my birth certificate and marriage certificate on the day I applied (6 weeks ago) but I've had no updates since and it's still saying I need to upload identity evidence and I thought it was just easier to use my passport for this.

Hi again, if the identity is still outstanding then you can upload a photo of your passport via the online account digital upload option: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/student-finance-england-how-to-guide

This can be used to resolve the identity request, although I would still advise to contact to check in relation to the previous evidence submitted as we would have expected the identity review to have been completed by now, and for the remainder of the application review to be pending. Stephen

Thank you I really appreciate your help, I will upload the photo of my passport today. I was worried that something was wrong as I was expecting to of had some kind of update by now. I will try contacting sfe again today , I'm not having much luck talking to them by live chat unfortunately. They just keep saying that they are busy so can never guarantee their timescales. I did try calling yesterday but I couldn't get past the switch board system , it just kept on sending me a text message and then cutting me off. Do you know how I can get through to a person on the phone? Many thanks again I really appreciate your help!

Hi again, unfortunately I would not be able to advise on this, however it may be that the lines are busy at present, but I would advise to retry as once through an advisor will be able to assist you and check the application for you. Stephen

That's fine , thank you I called them and managed to get through this time. My application had been put under the wrong category apparently , I applied for a part time tuition loan but it has been put under the category of childcare grant. I have no idea how that has happened. I'm also quite confused as I have spoken to the people on live chat at least 5 times and none of the people I have spoken to have told me this. The man I spoke to on the phone is sending my account for a review apparently which he said usually takes 10 working days. He said he can see my birth and marriage certificate have definitely been uploaded and that they should now be reviewed and *hopefully* my application should be approved after that. I really hope that is the case but I am now very worried I will lose my chance to do my course this year if it isn't sorted out soon.

Thanks for confirming this with us - yes, when a referral is done that normally takes 10 working days, so this should be done soon.

Please keep an eye on your account and e-mails for any updates.

Thanks, Graeme

I'm pleased to hear it normally takes 10 working days , however I have just had an email saying thank you for your application , we will give you an update by 30th September which is 3.5 weeks away. Now I don't know what to think to be honest. Is this likely to be an automatic email or is it genuinely going to take that long do you think?

Any timescale that you see on the website or by e-mail is based on the standard timescales that we have.

So, you're fine to ignore that, rest assured: our team always try to review referrals within 10 working days, if not before.

Thanks, Graeme
