Biochemistry/biomedical sciences Supercurricular or competitions for year 11

Hi! I'm looking for biochemistry, biomedical science or microbiology supercurriculars for Y11 students. I've already looked at olympiads which i cant write this year, but i can in Y12, so ill start a little bit of prep ig... Has anyone done CREST awards, olympiads, research placements or the likes? How was the experience and where did you do it.

Dont start your supercurriculars until the summer, focus on your gcse prep. Stuff you did before then wont be recent enough to be relevant for your personal statement anyway. If you want to do stuff for fun then dont choose awards or competitions because they’ll add to your workload which will make year 11 more stressful for you.

I'm relatively confident for GCSE's thanks to good mocks grades and generally being fine with the amount of info i need to know. What other stuff do you recommend? I'm reading some fun biology books and reading articles, but thats it.... I did a mooc in the summer, what non-competition opportunities do i have?
Year 11 is too soon to be doing that stuff. Anything you do at this point will be "out of date" by the time you apply anyway. Read around the subject area if you really have a lot of free time.

Go to some museums every now and then, watch a documentary or two, go be outside and see how much you can relate from what you learnt in science to the actual world.
Also you might think youve got GCSEs covered but youve only done half your gcse content, youll soon learn that if you want those top marks you need to put the effort in properly to be able to keep up with both understanding and retaining about 300 hours worth of facts
