Universities to pick for music

Hey all, hope you're all well!!

It's my first time on here so apologies for any confusion if I get lost.

I want to study music at university and I was wondering if any of you recommend any university + grade requirements?

Any unis with ABB would also be great as a backup option!!

Cheers

What sort of music - and do you mean a Conservatoire performance course, or a more academic University degree?

Reading music + Uni degree

Every course is different, every Uni is different - you really do have to do this stuff yourself as no-one else can make these choices for you. This involves you looking at course descriptions in detail and thinking about what you want to study, and why. What sort of Uni do you want and what are your realistic grade expectations. You need to go to some relevant Uni Open Days and listen to the course / subject descriptions, and think about what you want. Etc etc.

Some contrasting courses :
Undergraduate | Department of Music | University of Bristol
Undergraduate | Department of Music | University of Liverpool
Course search | University of West London

Hi @benji_d5000

I have a friend here at Kingston who studies music and really enjoys it!

This is the link to the course page Music Technology BA (Hons) | Kingston University London
The entry requirements are 112-128 UCAS points
You can find out what the equivalent grades are by using the points calculator
Calculate your UCAS Tariff points | UCAS

ABB = 128 points :smile:

My friend mentioned that the studios are great and they are connected to music producer Tony Visconti.

I would really recommend coming to an open day. It is a great chance to get a feel for the university as to what it might be like to live and study there, see the facilities and speak to current students and lectures.
Here is a link to the website where you can find out about upcoming open days Open Days and events | Kingston University London

I hope this helps and if you have any questions feel free to ask

Hi. I study at York doing Music (so I’m a bit biased). I really enjoy it there and I like the range of modules that you can take and the many ensembles that you can take.

It is AAB though but because I’m from a poorer area, I ended up getting in for ABB but doing an EPQ also lowers the grade as well if you get above a C.

When I applied a couple of years ago, I also applied to University of Manchester, Liverpool Hope University, University of Huddersfield and University of Leeds if that helps with a wider search for music
