Hi, I have a deferred place to study Law and French at the University of Bristol in 2026. I have been considering whether or not I want to try and switch to the straight law LLB or stick with Law and French. The part I am most interested in is the year abroad, which I would still be able to apply to doing the straight Law degree, but might have a slightly lower chance at getting the partner uni I want (not quite sure how this works??). I have really enjoyed French at A Level, but have heard from some people that went to my school that they found languages at university, including Bristol, a step down from the level of teaching at A level, given l went to quite an academically rigorous school. The bits I have my reservations about are the fact that all the literature and culture elements are taught in English, whilst I was taught everything in French at A level, and I wonder whether I will find it intellectually challenging and stimulating enough. Could someone please comment on how they have found/are finding this course, and maybe explain how applying for a position for a year abroad works at Bristol in terms of choosing where you are based.
Thanks!
