Plymouth university first year

Hiya everyone, I’m currently starting my first year at Plymouth university, and staying at private halls. I’m studying mathematics. I was wondering if anyone had any tips on on how make friends. I’m from Belfast and have just moved today. Thank yous!!
Hiya! Great to have you in Plymouth! Hope you have a great first few weeks settling in and getting to know the university and city 😄

Some of the best ways to make new friends, I would suggest, include joining a society and trying Give it A Go events run by the UPSU. You can check out all societies via the link above and head along to the societies fair next week where you can chat to committee members, find out more, and explore options from sports to crafting, music, hobbies, and more. 👋 They're a great chance to meet likeminded people, try something new, and have some social downtime outside of your studies.

Give it A Go events are run by the SU and are often low/no cost for students, allowing them the chance to meet new friends and try out a new sport or skill (like yoga or crafting), or go on trips to places such as Ikea or the zoo/cinema for a low cost student-friendly day out. 🌟

You can also chat to classmates for group to study and revise with together, which is always handy for revision and coursework, and also go to Welcome Week events with your new flatmates in private halls. That's a great way to make a new friend group and attend sessions together in the first few weeks whilst you settle in and might not know too many people just yet. 🙌

Best of luck with your first few weeks and enjoy Welcome Week next week! Be sure to check out all the fairs and events happening all week long and beyond 😁
