Low UCAT Score - Other Options?

Hi, so I've just taken my UCAT.
I scored band 2 on situational judgement...
But did really badly (1620) for my point score.
I don't want to take a gap year, and ideally wanted to attend a dental school (like Liverpool or Newcastle).
My grades are currently looking better than my UCAT score - I'm taking A levels Biology, Chemistry and French.
I know many universities don't have an official cut-off score, is a score of 1620 really highly unlikely to be even considered?
Does anyone know how available related apprenticeships are? Is it just dental nursing that's a true option?
Thank you!

yes i think u probably have a really low chance even tho those uni have no cut off scores but it's not impossible. It's a risk u have to take. Maybe apply to like 2 or 3 unis that hv low cut off, then the rest put courses that u wouldnt mind doing if u get rejected from the dental schools

Hi @justnoseying,
considering the average cut off score for dentistry is between 2400-2700, the chances are really low, but not exactly impossible. But based on your grades, a foundation year could also be a potential option.

I just had a look at the available apprenticeships on UCAS, and there are many with a lot of time to apply before the deadline, the only issue could be the locations. Here’s a link, so you can have a look: https://www.ucas.com/explore/search/apprenticeships .

Besides the apprenticeships and dental nursing, another related course is dental technology, but I don’t think the job roles are like being a dental nurse or dentist.

UCAT scores are nothing like that high. I think you have forgotten that this year the maximum score is 2700. Average UCAT for interview 2024 entry at Liverpool was 2639 which is roughly equivalent to 1980 this year and lowest was 2160 - equivalent to ~1620.

Hey anyone who is reading this!
I’m hoping to get some advice about dentistry applications.
I sat the UCAT and scored 1620 with Band 2 in SJT. My predicted AAA in Biology, Chemistry, and Product Design. I’ve also had some extenuating circumstances in Year 12/13 which also have impacted my GCSEs results and UCAT prep, but things are improving now.
I’ve written a strong personal statement and have lots of volunteering experience and WE
I really don’t want to take a gap year if possible. Do you think there are any dental schools that take a more holistic approach or are more understanding of extenuating circumstances / lower UCAT scores? Or is there any advice on what I could do now to improve my chances this cycle?
Thanks so much in advance for any advice given!

I’m also looking at foundation years but I don’t fit in the criteria fully as my Extenuating circumstances been going on since childhood but progressed greatly this summer so I wasn’t able sign up to any of those summer schools and I’m always failing to fit 1 criteria like I don’t talk to one of my parents anymore or free school meals in like I’ve got them now but if what’s happening at home happened 2 yrs ago I would have got them-it nearly did.
Is there a way of writing that in Extenuating circumstances?
Also I can’t find anyone to relate to as this is quite serious/difficult EC!
