Would past part time study loan affect my full time loan

I have studied part time with open university 120 credits and withdrew but received a certificate of higher education. Would my previous part time loan funding and the certificate affect my eligibility for full time funding? Do I need to disclose on my full time application that I studied part time and got the certificate ? I did not complete the full degree.

Hi there. Yes, you would need to disclose this on the applicaiton. Can you confirm the full name of the course you are looking to study now and how many years this would be? How many years of previous study do you have in total? Thanks, Leah.

I completed the certificate of he in one year in 2021 but claimed it in January 2025. I didnt know it was going to affect it. I only claimed it because others said that its nice to claim it every year of a degree .

How many years will your new course be and just confirm you studied 5 years in total on the part time course? Thanks, Leah.

Hi Wanesa1996,

If you gained the qualification after year 5, that would be included in your previous study. The previous study calculation is the new course length, plus an additional year, minus any previous study years (the years it took to gain the qualification).

It sounds like you gained the qualification after 3 years, is that correct? If so, the calculation would be 4+1-3= 2 years, this would mean that you would only be eligible for Maintenance Loan and any applicable grants in years 1 and 2 of the new course, as you would need to self fund the Tuition Fees in year 1 and 2. You would receive full support in years 3 and 4 of the new course.

If you were to start an honours degree, the calculation would be different as that would be considered to be a top up to your previous qualification received.

Thanks, Clare

Hi there,

Is the foundation year included within the 4 year course or separate? Can you confirm the course name and university you would study and when this would start? We can check this on system to see if its one of our exception courses.

Thanks,
Claire

Hi Wanesa1996,

If the course is Adult Nursing and you aren't already registered in that field, your previous study wouldn't be taken into account at all. This is because Nursing is an exception to previous study and equal level qualification rules.

Thanks, Clare
