Before you travel

Download your student app

At Uni of Staffordshire, we’ve got the Beacon app. You can use it to access all the university systems, and you can also ask questions about anything you need to know about life at the UK or at the University.

Log in to your student email account

This will be your primary account for all university-related emails.

Complete Online enrolment

You’ll need to complete your online enrolment before you can get access to the various systems you will need as a student, and your timetable.

Make sure you understand your visa responsibilities

Make sure your Student Visa is linked to your UKVI account, and that you understand your working conditions. If you're on a Visitor Visa, check your conditions too.

Arrange your accommodation

Make sure you have arranged your accommodation and know when you will be able to move in.

After you arrive

You’ve arrived now the real fun begins! But before you get too caught up in all the excitement, there are a few important things to tick off your list.

Book and attend your English assessment

If you are here on a Student Visa, and your country of origin is one that requires proof of English proficiency as part of the visa application, you will need to attend an English assessment before you complete your face-to-face enrolment.

Complete your Face-to-face enrolment

Most international students need to attend an in-person enrolment to complete their registration at uni.

Register with a GP

Make sure you sign up with a local doctor so you can access healthcare, if and when you need it.

Open a bank account

It’s sometimes more convenient to open a UK bank account than to continue to use your one from home.

Get involved with welcome events

They’ll be load of welcome activities going on a great way to meet new people and make friends!

And obviously in between all the fun, don’t forget to check in with your family and friends and let them know you have arrived safely and are ready for your new adventure!
