Resit lang - or write off GCSE scoring med schools?

Hi, not sure if anyone can help. I got 99998888776 in my GCSEs but the 6 was in English Language. I was predicted an 8 so it was a bit of a surprise and not a welcome one - the remark came back unchanged. Looking into how med schools rank candidates for interviews I'm thinking this will preclude me from all the GCSE scoring ones, like Leicester, Nottingham, Birmingham etc.

Should I go for a resit of my English lang? I reckon I could improve with some tutoring and resitting in November - but are there some med schools that won't accept a resit in English lang? I'm worried that if I don't score too well in my UCAT (sitting it next year as only just started in yr12) then I'll need to fall back on GCSE scoring unis, but my English lang grade brings the overall score down.

Any advice welcome @Jonjon7@Songbird19?

The same thing happened to me with English. I applied for a remark as my score was significantly lower than usual and now I'm waiting for the outcome. If it doesn't help I will resit as I'm aiming to go to Oxford. Despite that my teachers have told me it's not necessary and that this one grade is not going to make much of a difference. I got 999999988886 overall, so I'm doing it rather for my confidence and because I know I deserve a better grade. I don't think revising for resits is going to take too much time, especially as we are only at the beginning of Year 12 so I believe it worth going for it!

I thought Oxford do not accept GCSE resits unless extenuating circumstances

Be cautious with this one, as quite a few schools don't accept GCSE resits unless there are extenuating circumstances. Birmigham is one.

The 6 in English does make your application less competitive for some schools, but not that many, especially since you have eight 8-9 grades overall. Refer to the myucat.co.uk strategic guide for more information.
