Loan later in studies

Hi, my question is very specific to my own situation, but hopefully could be helpful for others in similar situations.

I started a PhD in 2019 for which I had a scholarship for 3 years. I had to extend and interrupt this for personal reasons, meaning I am currently expected to finish in March 2026 but am no longer funded. Since the scholarship funding stopped, I have been funding myself through part-time work, but I am now considering a doctoral loan to cover the final months of writing. I no longer have tuition fees to pay, so this would be only a maintenance loan and wouldn't need to be more than 1200 per month.

I wanted to first get a general idea of what is possible in my situation?

Thanks for any help on this issue.

Hi Tam,

From the perspective of student finance you should be fine to apply to us if you want: the deadline to do so is 9 months after the start of your final academic year.

In order to apply we'll need you to complete a 19/20 application (assuming your course began in September 2019 or later). These are no longer available online, but that's not a problem: if you call us on 0300 100 0031 we can send you the correct form to complete.

Thanks, Graeme
