Studying botany at Oford (Exeter)

I had a friend back in the 70s who told me he was studying Botany at Exeter College Oxford.

I can't find anything about such a course now.

Could it be possible that I am somehow mistaken or that this course has been discontinued?

Are there any colleges that offer Botany courses at Oxford on the present day?

(Might he have been studing Botany as part of a wider course,I wonder)

I never discussed his course when I knew him- just that he once told me he was doing Botany when we were walking around the Gardens opposite Magdelaine College (are they called the Botanical Gardens?)

Botany used to be offered. There used to be a department of Plant Sciences, but it merged with Zoology in 2022 to become the department of Biology.

Thanks. It seems at this remove to have been an unusual subject to have studied but he never talked about it much and I wasn't that curious.

He was a bit "over interested" in the psychoactive properties of some of the plants in the Botanical Garden though and that may have led to other concoctions (I hope not but I did try and warn him)

The Botanic Garden is opposite Magdalen College (which is pronounced Maudlen College).

In the 80s, the Botany Fellow at Wadham gave the best parties. A confirmed bachelor, Dr Mabberley had lovely rooms in the front quad. Wadham has a collection of whacky trees, including one which is a living fossil.
