Grades for sixth form

I’m currently in year 11, and I’ll be sitting a set of mocks mid November which will be used to apply to sixth form/college. I would like to study Chemistry, Biology and psychology, However, my end of year 10 grades were awful: grade 2-3s with two 4s. I was wondering if it would be possible to get least grade 6s by November. I’m thinking of doing lots of past papers and memorising content through flashcards.

Good afternoon,

Achieving higher grades is always possible as long as you are willing to put in the work. I recommend you create a revision timetable and include things like relevant YouTube videos, past papers, revision books, and attend revision classes if your school offers them. When I was studying for GCSEs, I found it useful to work with other smart students in my classes. This helped us keep motivated, and they will be able to help you improve in areas you are struggling with.

Additionally, use a lot of your time to revise, this includes lunchtime at the school library, after school, and weekends. But ensure you have a break and have sme time to do things you like.

There are good revision websites such as Khan Academy , BBC Bitesize. On YouTube, I recommend Primrose Kitten, The GCSE Maths Tutor, and Mr Bruff. I also recommend you look at the mark schemes, e.g. what each exam board wants, as this helps you understand which parts are most important.

I hope this information helps, and I wish you the best of luck in your GCSEs.

All the best,
Ella
