Why are AI detectors flagging my own work as AI?? - PhD Thesis worries

I am submitting my PhD thesis shortly through Turnitin, so I thought I would run a quick plagiarism and AI check myself for peace of mind. Now I am so stressed because Winston AI Detector claims that 80% of my work appears to be AI-generated. I don't know what to do...I have used AI strictly within university guidelines...the writing is not AI-generated. I had a lot of stylistic issues on previous submissions and was told I need to make the writing more concise. I consulted AI to essentially train me to do this...and now it feels as though I have trained myself to write just like AI, and the writing is being flagged as AI-generated...

Because ai detectors are guessing machines. There's no marker that says something is written by ai, so the detectors just try to find speech patterns similar to those AI use and if yours are similar, then it'll flag it. Talk to your professor about this and if they won't accept that as an excuse, ask them to quiz you on the more advanced concepts you cover. If they won't accept that, ask them if you can do some assessments in front of them and have them check that in turnitin and compare the writing styles to show that your writing just sounds like ai naturally.

I'm amazed that a PhD candidate, who has done this research and written it up, is wasting time fannying around with plagiarism detectors.

Just ignore it. Why are you even using one?

I never, ever paid attention to a Turnitin score throughout any of my degrees, because I knew I'd done the work. Bonkers.

So you’re saying running my dissertation through four AI checkers and then asking ChatGPT to make it “less AI-y” would be a bad thing?

Asking for a friend…
