Research as a beginner

Heyy, I'm in grade 11 rn and I'm planning on doing independent research or research competitions online to add for my supercurriculars. I'd be applying to finance or economics at Cambridge and lse. Any tips would be really useful as this is my first time.

There are tons like you who strive to do independent research, cold email professors (who really don't like it), and try and get it published in some sketchy high school journal, or a research competition. Truthfully, independent research only adds value if it's done exactly right (aligns with your narrative/story) and is mostly fluff otherwise.

Other parallels I can recommend you do is participate in essay competitions (JLE is a good one) or undertake an EPQ, which demonstrate a broader skillset while still having a good reputation.
