Can I (UK national) get student UK finance if I have lived abroad?

Hi! I am from the UK and have lived there my whole life, and did my undergraduate degree there, but I have recently moved to Spain to teach English for a year.

My question is:

1. If I go back to the UK, will I still be eligible for student finance for a master's course if I have lived in Spain for a year?

2. If my contract is extended, and I work in Spain for another year or two (I don't intend to stay longer than 3 years), would this affect my eligibility? (Just to clarify, my contract is temporary.)

The information on SFE is not clear about the student finance for UK nationals who have lived abroad, but I'd like to know as it will determine if I stay abroad another year. It says you need to have been a UK resident for 3 years prior to starting the course, but it also states there are exceptions for temporary moves. I have been a UK resident since birth, but does moving away temporarily affect my ability to access student finance?

I would appreciate any advice, or I would like to know if anyone's had a similar experience.
Thanks!

Hi Ellie,

Time spent abroad is fine so long as it's temporary, and it sounds like you'll be fine to prove this.

For example, when you apply to us we'll likely ask to see your temporary visa or contract, and if that's acceptable you'll be eligible to receive funding from us.

Thanks, Graeme
